Duo Tempero Brasileiro

Neal Alger guitar | Julie Koidin flute

My interest in Brazilian music has grown stronger and deeper over the past several years and there's a new project with which I'm able to fulfill this new musical passion. It's called DUO TEMPERO BRASILEIRO, which roughly translates as 'Brazilian spice duo' and it's comprised of myself on acoustic nylon-string guitar and flutist Julie Koidin. Julie has extensively researched and performed within the particular Brazilian music style CHORO, which predates the well-known samba and is full of intricate melodies and shifting harmonies over a Afro-Brazilian beat. The duo will occasionally expand to include other instruments, among them percussion, vocalists, and strings (cavaquinho, mandolin, etc.) and we'll dip into other salient Brazilian styles such as baiao, samba, xote, marcha, and bossa nova. Check my schedule for upcoming performances and, for more information on the project, visit the Duo Tempero Brasileiro website.
